German and Danish copies

A helpful German collector from Leipzig has sent us the following entries for the Kelmscott Chaucer in German and Danish auction catalogues.

Simon copy: Paul Graupe (Tiergartenstrasse 4, Berlin W10), Auktion 89, 10 June 1929, lot 339 [Bibliothek Alfred Simon]. Doves binding. Sold for 6,000 DM. Present location unknown.

Ekmans copy: Branners Bibliofile Antikvariat and Arne Bruun Rasmussen Kunstauktioner (Copenhagen), Auktion 186, 1–4 November 1965, lot 588 [Ingeniør Oscar Ekmans og Fru Lia Ekmans]. “Full white pigskin, sewn on double raised cords, heavy boards with inside bevel, leather inside joints, single gilt line panel, edges rough gilt”; a binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. “This item will not be sold at the auction, as i[t] has been given away in Mrs. Ekman[s’ ] last will.” Present location unknown.

Unidentified owner: Dr. Ernst Hauswedell (Hamburg 36), Antiquariatskatalog 188, Auktion 124, lot 1071 [Kostbare Bücher aus Vier Jahrhunderten]. Showings in Baden-Baden, 9–13 November 1965, and Hamburg, 25–27 November 1963. Pigskin binding by Zaehnsdorf. 4,000 DM. Present location unknown.
