Peter Keisogloff Rare Books, Brecksville, Ohio, is offering a copy from the library of Leroy Arthur Sugarman (with his red leather book label). The book has a full white tooled pigskin binding by Rivière, and the price is $75,000.
This is the same copy that appeared in John Windle’s list 12 (1994) for $39,500 (Census 4.679).
Leroy Arthur Sugarman (b. 1885), the son of a real estate and mining developer and philanthropist, was associated with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and contributed many articles to professional medical journals. He was also a member of the Grolier Club from 1950 to 1957.
[Thanks to Jack Walsdorf for noticing the connection between this book and item 4.679 in our Census.]
[Updated, 3 March 2013: The Census number should be 4.697 rather than 4.679. And we can now report that the book was sold to an Englishman in the wine and spirits business in Grasse, France.]
