Alum-tawed pigskin binding with gold lettering and design on cover and spine. Signed on lower back binding with Praxis Bindery stamp and “20.PG.10.” The original quarter linen binding and endpapers are laid into a portfolio in the bottom of a clamshell box.

Clara S. Johnson

Clara Sturges Johnson (1877–1969), grandmother of the present owner, was, with her husband William T. Parker (an architect), co-founder of the Francis W. Parker School in San Diego in 1912. She was a woman of strong political and social views, frequently expressed in letters to newspapers.

Katharine Johnson Parker (1917–1991), mother of the present owner, in 1990 gave the book to her two children, one of whom arranged for it to be rebound in 2009 and offered it to his sister as a wedding present.
